Jesus is ALIVE

“Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.” (St Paul to Philippians 4:6-7)

THE HOLY ROSARY – SORROWFUL MYSTERIES | TUESDAYS & FRIDAYS | PRAY TO JESUS WITH MARY

THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY

Sorrowful Mysteries

First Sorrowful Mystery:

The agony in the Garden.

"Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, 'Sit here, while I go yonder and pray.' And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, 'My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.' And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will"' (Mt 26:36-39).

Our Father, 10 Hail Marys (contemplating the mystery), Glory be to the Father.

Second Sorrowful Mystery:

The scourging at the pillar.

"Pilate released Barabbas to them, but after he had Jesus scourged, he handed him over to be crucified" (Mt 27,26).

Our Father, 10 Hail Marys (contemplating the mystery), Glory be to the Father.

Third Sorrowful Mystery:

The crowning with thorns.

"Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him, and plaiting a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!"' (Mt 27:27-29).

Our Father, 10 Hail Marys (contemplating the mystery), Glory be to the Father.

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery:

The carrying of the cross.

"And they compelled a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull)" (Mk 15:21-22).

Our Father, 10 Hail Marys (contemplating the mystery), Glory be to the Father.

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery:

The crucifixion.

"And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. And Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do' ...

It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun's light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, 'Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!' And having said this he breathed his last" (Lk 23:33-46).

Our Father, 10 Hail Marys (contemplating the mystery), Glory be to the Father.

The Anima Christi | A Prayer That Changes Everything

The Anima Christi is from an unknown author of the 14th century. It was popularized by St. Ignatius Loyola in the 16th century, and remains widely used for thanksgiving after receiving Our Lord in Holy Communion.

The Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy Wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me,
And bid me to come to Thee.
That with Thy saints, I may praise Thee.
Forever and ever.
Amen.

Novena to the Queen of Peace (Medjugorje)

This novena is traditionally prayed in preparation for the anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady, Queen of Peace, at Medjugorje. Each day includes the same prayers, followed by a specific daily intention.

Daily Order of Prayer (Days 1–9)

1. Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Prayer to the Queen of Peace

Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, Queen of Peace!

You came to us to lead us to God.

Obtain for us the grace not only to say:
"Be it done unto me according to Your will,"

but to live it as you did.

Into your hands we place our hands,
that you may lead us to Him
amidst all our trials and difficulties.

Help us to overcome every evil
with good and not with evil.

Help us to accept everyone,
especially those who do not accept us.

Pray for us and help us
to forgive from the heart
all those who have offended us.

Lead us to Jesus.

Help us to surrender ourselves
to Him without fear.

May Jesus be our peace,
our joy and our life.

Amen.

3. Invocation to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of Your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your love.

Send forth Your Spirit
and they shall be created.

And You shall renew
the face of the earth.

Let us pray:

O God,
who instructed the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that by the same Spirit
we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

4. Pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary

  1. The Resurrection
  2. The Ascension
  3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit
  4. The Assumption of Mary
  5. The Coronation of Mary

5. Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto Litany)

(Pray the Litany of Loreto.)

the glory of the Most Holy Trinity.

Amen.

Final Prayer Each Day

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement,
O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

Amen.

For a parish booklet or home prayer group, many people also add:

  • Daily Mass (if possible)
  • Eucharistic Adoration
  • Fasting on bread and water on Wednesday and Friday
  • Reading a Medjugorje message each day
  • Personal intentions for peace in families and the world.
